2025 MINI Cooper recently released some details about what they call their next-generation hatch. But that’s the full story. What they are focusing on is an entirely new electric hatch that will be built in collaboration with Great Wall Motors in China. But there’s more, a petrol-powered hatch coming that is probably the same, if not more important for MINI fans.
Today we take a closer look at the next-generation 2025 MINI Cooper hatch made in Oxford and offered exclusively with an internal combustion engine (ICE). The last ICE MINI hatch may not be all that new but it might be quite special.
2025 MINI Cooper Review
By the early 2030s, 2025 MINI Cooper will become a fully electric car maker. The British manufacturer is expected to launch its last new car with a combustion engine in 2025 and in the same year, the 2025 MINI Cooper will also launch a new convertible model.
Contrary to previous reports, the brand has officially confirmed that the Mini Convertible will be around at least until the end of the decade.
Next-Generation Mini Convertible Confirmed
“The 2025 MINI Cooper Convertible has a large and very loyal fan base. This is also demonstrated by the great demand for the new and recently updated model. Therefore, we are very confident in the future success of this vehicle concept,” Bernd Körber, head of the brand Mini, commented.
Interestingly, Mini says the development of a successor to the 2025 MINI Cooper Convertible is a “done deal”, though that doesn’t mean the car is ready to launch. Obviously, the current generation model has at least two to three years of service life, and its successors haven’t even been tested on public roads.
Most likely, 2025 MINI Cooper wants to say the new model has received the green light for production in 2025.
The British manufacturer says the Convertible is very popular in Germany, followed by the US and UK markets. The brand believes the announcement of a replacement for the current model should “create a sensation.”
“Last year, almost one in five Mini customers in Germany chose the pleasure of riding on an open roof,” added Körber. “This shows the great enthusiasm of the Mini community for a concept vehicle like this in the future.”
It will be interesting to see if the only four-seater open-top in the premium small car segment will get an all-electric version when it arrives in 2025.
Given the added weight of the convertible compared to the identical coupe model, plus the weight of the battery, we wouldn’t want to. surprised that the 2025 MINI Cooper decided to stick with the good old combustion engine for the next-generation cabriolet. 2025 MINI Cooper Refresh
The petrol-powered range will use an evolution of the current B48 engine line with a mild hybrid added to reduce CO2 and increase performance.
As we detailed in our latest preview of the next-generation 2025 MINI Cooper Countryman, each petrol-powered engine is a revision of the existing one. So things will look familiar but we believe the numbers might increase a bit.
The 1.5 three-cylinder could use a more powerful BMW tone that would see it go up to 137 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. Then there’s the four-cylinder 2.0 series that could also sport a variety of BMW tones; 170 hp and 206 ft-lbs and 218 hp and 265 ft-lbs.
All petrol engines will get a 48-volt mild hybrid system and will be mated to a revised 7-speed dual-clutch with a new gear selector design. The days of manual transmission may be numbered but we believe it will last until the end of the decade in most markets.
One thing that has become clear is that the 2025 MINI Cooper has no plans for a plug-in hybrid for the smaller range of cars. While there’s the mild hybrid capability to come, it’s a minor added functionality focused primarily on smoothing automatic stop-starts and reducing CO2 output at certain times of operation.
2025 MINI Cooper Report
2025 MINI Cooper will stop selling gasoline-powered cars by 2030, according to a Der Spiegel report. The brand also plans to introduce its final gas model by 2025 and half of its sales to electricity by 2027.
The official roadmap will be presented next week, according to the Spiegel report. The plan, 2025 MINI Cooper will be the first brand in the BMW Group to use electricity.

The decision to go all-electric is important given that Germany, BMW’s home country, appears to be planning to end sales of gas-powered vehicles in 2030. The UK, home of the MINI brand, also recently raised a proposed ban on gas-fueled cars from 2035 to 2030.
Most of the rest of Europe came together around the same year, as did several US states. China, BMW’s biggest market (US and Germany are #2 and #3), plans to ban non-hybrid vehicles starting in 2035, though the plan still allows half of the country’s new cars to run on a conventional hybrid fuel.
But despite this schedule, the BMW Group itself has not committed to going fully electric by 2030. This raises the question of where BMW plans to sell gas-fueled vehicles after 2030 – certainly not their home region or the various US states that might be. will use electricity at that time. BMW was an early leader in electric cars, producing the original 2025 MINI Cooper E (mainly as a test vehicle) starting in 2009. This was followed by the ActiveE, the BMW 1 series that retrofitted to electric drive, and finally, the BMW i3, BMW’s first electric vehicle built from the ground up. on.

2025 MINI Cooper Aceman
2025 MINI Cooper is testing a prototype for a new addition to its lineup. The prototype for the electric subcompact crossover will be positioned under the Countryman. The vehicle was previewed in July by the Aceman concept, whose name may be brought into production. The revival of the Paceman name is also rumored.
The Aceman, or whatever it ends up being labeled as is expected to arrive in 2024 as a 2025 model. The redesigned Countryman is due to arrive next year and will grow a bit to make room for the Aceman. The Aceman concept measures 159.4 inches long, or roughly 10 inches smaller than the current Countryman.
The Aceman will be the first vehicle to be developed and built by Spotlight Automotive, a Chinese joint venture between 2025 MINI Cooper and Great Wall Motors. The spotlight was founded in 2019 to develop and manufacture electric vehicles for the 2025 MINI Cooper and the Great Wall, for sale in China and export markets.
No specs are available but expect a range of over 114 miles from the current Mini’s only EV, the Cooper SE.
The spy shot hints at a design similar to the current Countryman but with new details that are in line with Mini’s latest design language.
Called Charismatic Simplicity, the language was previewed on the Aceman concept and will see the 2025 MINI Cooper vehicle lose the chrome accents. The Future 2025 MINI Cooper will also lose the leather trim, while the distinctive round center stack will be a digital display.
Fortunately, vehicles will continue to offer physical controls for key functions, including the popular toggle switch.
As noted above, the redesigned Countryman will arrive first. It will be a twin to the redesigned BMW X1 2023, and unlike the Aceman, it will offer a choice of gas or electric powertrain. Ultimately, though, 2025 MINI Cooper will sell exclusively EVs. The automaker plans to launch its last gas car in 2025.
Interestingly, the 2025 MINI Cooper also hints at a crossover positioned above the Countryman. While that means the 2025 MINI Cooper is bigger than usual, the brand says its vehicles will always have the smallest footprint for their respective segments.

It was initially believed that the target for the all-electric MINI was 2030, but this new report confirms BMW’s aggressive plans to keep up with the fast-changing market.

Those materials give us hope that this might be a rather special delivery for an ICE-powered 2025 MINI Cooper.
