New 2024 Nissan Altima AWD Mid-Size Sedan Looks Great

The 2024 Nissan Altima is one of the few sedans still being produced as buyers turn to the more popular crossover SUVs. So far, there’s no denying that the Altima has attractive styling, an affordable price, an optional turbocharged engine, and an all-wheel drive available. Its drawbacks are the main distinguishing characteristics that will set it above the others in the class.

One of the competitors from Toyota and Honda are still the two leading choices because in 2023 the Accord model underwent a complete redesign and interestingly in 2025 a new Camry car will be sold.

On the other hand, competitors are not losing on the Hyundai side whereas for 2024, Hyundai is giving the Sonata a significant redesign and the connected Kia K5 also needs a refresh.

2024 Nissan Altima is a midsize sedan. The previous model, the Nissan Altima, has been the belle of sales for nearly three decades. Today’s Altima is part of the sixth generation of the car with a choice of a pair of four-cylinder engine options and an optional All Wheel Drive (AWD).

Part of the competition that occurs in the sedan segment is also offered with a hybrid powertrain. However, until now we have not been able to confirm the Nissan Altima for its electrification.

2024 Nissan Altima Review

One online media site that focuses on discussing Nissan also told us that the 2024 Altima is a perfectly adequate family sedan with sharp looks, a spacious cabin, and available all-wheel drive.

2024 Nissan Altima

The new Nissan Altima will apparently be equipped with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines found in the VC-Turbo trim which will certainly offer more performance and AWD will also be available in most trim levels complementing each base engine.

We expect such significant changes to the 2024 Nissan Altima model year. The front-end style that was changed in its latest generation is also equipped with Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity.

Using Android Auto still uses a cable for connectivity. With the recent update, we expect a lot of changes for the 2024 model both in terms of interior enhancements and beyond.

Once again the 2024 Nissan Altima is a solid mid-size sedan that offers a lot of value.

2024 Nissan Altima Refresh

Expect significant changes to the 2024 Nissan Altima with changes to the upgraded chrome V-shaped element on the nose, replaced by a design that looks like a waterfall that tapers inwards towards the underside of the front end.

Along with the new Nissan logo in the middle. The headlights appear to have the same shape, but with a revised layout for the lights inside.

This design also continues on the exterior of the 2024 Nissan Altima Trim SV, which gets a new design for the 17-inch wheels. The Grades SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo roll on redesigned 19-inch wheels.

2024 Nissan Altima Interior

The 2024 Nissan Altima has acceptable sight lines, the high rear decklid makes it difficult to see behind the vehicle. The low-resolution rear-view camera and annoying dashboard and rear-view mirror reflections that can be seen in the windows during bright sunlight are further problems.

2024 Nissan Altima

While the interior lacks beauty, its simple usability more than makes up for it. In particular, the touchscreen options and climate settings have easy-to-read labels.

On the inside, the 2024 Nissan Altima also undergoes significant changes with updated parts such as a 12.3-inch infotainment screen replacing the previous 8.0-inch unit in the SL and SR VC-Turbo grades, in addition to being an option on the SV.

This new screen will certainly support wireless Apple CarPlay and can work as a WiFi hotspot. There are also wireless device charging pads.

Previously, the Nissan Altima underwent changes to the cabin, including new finishing touches for the instrument panel. The SR class now has a double-stitched interior fabric which, if this change is still present in the 2024 Nissan Altima model, will certainly be more elegant.

Comfort

We hope that the 2024 Altima will also present a comfortable impression on its interior with greater thigh support. Even during fast acceleration, the sound isolation of the engine is very good.

Technology

The 12.3-inch touch screen on the Altima we tested is quite large. It has built-in navigation as well as wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The software looks and feels dated, though the speed and screen size give it a new feel.

The navigation system functionality is good; in our tests, it worked effectively for voice commands and quickly found destinations (thanks to Google search). But the graphics on the map seem ancient and outdated. This is not a screen issue because when you connect your phone and use Google or Apple Maps, the map looks very sharp. The backup camera view and ambient view are also blurry and low resolution, making it difficult to use at night.

ProPilot Assist technology in the Altima, which combines adaptive low-speed cruise control and lane centering, is a welcome addition. Adaptive cruise control works very well and requires a bit of traffic tweaking.

Storage

While the Altima’s trunk isn’t the largest in its class, it can still fit some full-size luggage. It’s also easy to load up to its maximum capacity due to its square shape. As standard equipment, the folding rear seats can only be opened by pulling a tab in the trunk. They don’t automatically fold up when the seat belt is removed; instead, they must be physically lowered by pulling the seat back from the inside. There is plenty of space for small items in the front seats. For taller bottles, the cup holder is a bit too shallow.

2024 Nissan Altima Color

Nissan also seems to be providing two new superior exterior colors, namely Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic.

The new nuances for the 2024 Nissan Altima will present new impressions that existed before, such as Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Pearl White TriCoat, Glacier White, and Deep Blue Pearl.

Nissan Altima Engine

The 2024 Nissan Altima is powered by a 2.5L Inline-4 Gas engine producing 188 hp @ 6000 rpm horsepower and 180 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm torque with front-wheel drive 7-Speed CVT Transmission.

The VC-Turbo engine on the Altima

The New Altima will certainly have two engines available, one of which is a standard four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and a turbocharged engine with up to 248 horsepower. Nissan calls the latter the VC-Turbo, and it differs from the former in that it can automatically change the compression ratio to offer power or efficiency depending on circumstances.

The acceleration resulting from the use of 93 octane fuel is not impressive. Also, if you frequently press the accelerator harder than usual, the VC-Turbo will easily fall short of the combined EPA fuel economy estimate of 29 mpg.

Performance

The Altima’s lackluster braking and acceleration performance won’t wow you as the 2.5-liter engine in our all-wheel-drive test of the Altima provided mediocre acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. However, the finely tuned CVT transmission makes the Altima a nearly invisible partner for everyday driving.

Steady handling is another positive aspect. Driving the Altima through sharp turns and sweeps will give you confidence. But the Altima’s overly soft and ambiguous steering is highlighted by the brilliance of handling.

Nissan Altima Safety

All Nissan Altima trims now come standard with the Safety Shield 360 suite of safety technologies which includes safety standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic rear braking, lane departure warning, radar-based blind spot warning, rear traffic warning, and high beam assist.

MPG

We drive the all-wheel-drive Altima, whose combined fuel economy is estimated by the EPA to be 30 mpg. On our mixed driving real-world evaluation route, it clocked up a respectable 34 mpg. Chances are the Altima will give you pretty good fuel efficiency.

Models

Trim levels include S, SV, SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo. All had front-wheel drive, a continuously variable gearbox (CVT), and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, except for the SR VC-Turbo. An all-wheel drive is an option for this machine, but the output reduces to 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft.
